In plain words

My half-asleep mind — wake up and stay awake to the One, and the things you truly long for will come.

By grace you'll taste the One's sweet elixir, and drinking it in without stopping, you'll be at lasting peace.

Part of you keeps dozing off from what matters — the invitation is simply to wake up and stay awake.
The deeper layer

This line gently calls to the sleepy part of us: wake up and stay awake to the One.

It is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad (hymn). Har chayt achayt manaa — O my sleepy, unaware mind, stay aware of the One. Everyone has a part that keeps dozing off from what matters. The verse speaks to it kindly, and promises that what you truly long for will come.

The reward is pictured as har ras, a sweet nectar from the One. Peevat raheh sadaa sukh ho-ee — keep drinking it, and you will always have peace. Loving the One is something to enjoy, like a favorite drink, not something to put up with.

Think of a water fountain that never runs dry. You can drink and drink and it is still full. The peace is lasting because it comes from a source that never runs out.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing does your attention keep 'falling asleep' on that you'd like to stay awake to?
