Steady the Mind and the Doubt Walks Out on Its Own

Listen to the sermon of the Lord, O mind, and enshrine the Shabad of His Word within your mind.

If your intellect remains stable and steady, then doubt shall depart from within you. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Listen to the One's own sermon, mind, and plant the Word of that teaching inside you.

Let your understanding grow steady and settled, and the doubt inside you simply walks out.

Doubt doesn't need to be argued away — steady the mind, and the doubt simply walks out on its own.
The deeper layer

Doubt leaves on its own when the mind grows steady. This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

It names two things to do. Listen to the story of the One. And sabad man vasaa-ay — keep the Shabad, the Guru's Word, living in your mind.

Doubt is not argued away here. bharam vichahu jaa-ay — doubt simply leaves from within. A wobbly mind makes doubt, the way a shaking phone camera makes a blurry picture. Hold the phone still, and the picture clears.

This idea comes back again and again in this raag. The Word planted inside is what holds the mind still.

A Question to Sit With

When your mind is calm and settled, what happens to the worries that felt so convincing when you were rattled?
