The True Pilgrimage-Place Isn't on Any Map

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਸੁ ॥
har charan ridai vasaa-ay too kilvikh hoveh naas.
Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet within your heart, and your sins shall be erased.
ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
panch bhoo aatmaa vas karahi taa tirath karahi nivaas. ||2||
If your soul overcomes the five elements, then you shall come to have a home at the true place of pilgrimage. ||2||

In plain words

Keep the One close in your heart, and the wrongs weighing on you get wiped clean.

If your soul can rise past the pull of the five elements, you'll have found the true pilgrimage-place — right where you stand.

The true pilgrimage-place isn't on a map — it's a state of soul you can reach right where you're standing.
The deeper layer

The true holy place is not on any map.

har charan ridai vasaa-ay — keep the Lord's feet in your heart. That is a way of saying: keep the One close. Then kilvikh hoveh naas — your wrongs are wiped away. That wiping comes from closeness, not from ritual. Being near the One heals what hard rituals only chase.

Next: panch bhoo aatmaa vas karahi — if your soul masters the five elements. These are the pulls of the body and its strong feelings. Then you live at the true tirath, the true holy place.

There is nowhere to travel. Think of the calm you feel in your own bed after a long trip. The holy place is a way of being, and you can carry it everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

If the 'holy place' were a way of being rather than a destination, what would it feel like to arrive there?
