Learning Without Love Just Feeds the Split

goojree mehlaa 3 teejaa.
Goojaree, Third Mehl:
ayko naam niDhaan pandit sun sikh sach so-ee.
The One Name is the treasure, O Pandit. Listen to these True Teachings.
doojai bhaa-ay jaytaa parheh parhat gunat sadaa dukh ho-ee. ||1||
No matter what you read in duality, reading and contemplating it, you shall only continue to suffer. ||1||

In plain words

The one Name is the real treasure, learned friend — listen, this is the true teaching.

Whatever you read while your heart is split in two, however much you study and mull it over, will only keep you aching.

Learning without love just feeds the split it studies — the real treasure is the One, not the knowing about it.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens by addressing a Pandit, a learned scholar — and gently unsettles the assumption that learning is the treasure. The One Name is. Reading done "in duality" — with a heart split between the One and its substitutes — only multiplies suffering, because knowledge without love feeds the very separateness it studies. This is not anti-learning; it is a reordering: knowledge in the service of love heals, knowledge in the service of the ego aches.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever known a lot about something but still felt no closer to it? What was missing?
