Truth Isn't a Performance but a Belonging

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
naanak satgur mili-ai hukam bujhi-aa ayk vasi-aa man aa-ay.
O Nanak, upon meeting the True Guru, the Order of the Lord's Will is understood, and the One Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥੬॥੮॥
jo tuDh bhaavai sabh sach hai sachay rahai samaa-ay. ||5||6||8||
Those who are pleasing to You, O True Lord, are true. They remain absorbed in You. ||5||6||8||

In plain words

Nanak says: meet the true teaching and you finally understand the One's ordering Will, and the One moves into your mind.

The ones who please You, true One, are themselves true — they stay dissolved in You.

Truth isn't a performance you pass — it's a matter of belonging, of being dissolved in what is true.
The deeper layer

Truth is not a show you put on. It is where you belong.

When a person meets the True Guru, the true teacher, hukam bujhi-aa — the hukam is understood. That is the One's Will, the way the One orders all things. Then the One comes to live in the mind.

jo tuDh bhaavai sabh sach hai — those who please You are true. They are true not by their own score. They are true by belonging to the True One. Think of a family dinner. You don't earn your seat at the table by performing. You belong.

The shabad began by unhooking wisdom from a holy city. It ends by tying everything to a holy relationship: living in the One, and melting into the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you feel 'true' inside of — not because you achieved it, but because you belong to it?
