Saturated With the Deathless, Beyond Death's Reach

ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਾਲ ਨ ਖਾਤੇ ॥
sant tumaaray tumray pareetam tin ka-o kaal na khaatay.
Your Saints are Your Beloveds; death does not consume them.
ਰੰਗਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
rang tumaarai laal bha-ay hai raam naam ras maatay. ||1||
They are dyed in the deep crimson color of Your Love, and they are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord's Name. ||1||

In plain words

Your Saints are Your beloveds; death does not consume them.

They are dyed deep crimson in Your love, drunk on the sweetness of Your Name.

Those saturated with the deathless One have located their life beyond death's reach — dyed crimson, drunk on sweetness.
The deeper layer

This line says that people who truly love the One are not swallowed up by death.

The verse paints them with two pictures. First, color: rang tumaarai laal bha-ay hai — they are dyed deep red in Your love. Think of a white shirt dipped in dye. It does not just get a red spot. The color soaks through every thread.

Second, sweetness: raam naam ras maatay — they are filled with joy by the sweet taste of the Name. The love soaks them through and makes them glad at the same time.

And because of that, tin ka-o kaal na khaatay — death does not eat them up. They have filled their lives with the One who never dies. So they have placed their life somewhere death cannot reach.

A Question to Sit With

What are you 'dyed' in deeply enough that it colors your whole life?
