Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Creating the soul, the One places this creation in the mother's womb.
With every breath it remembers the One, Nanak, and is not burned by the great fire.
The Vaar now turns, tenderly, to the very beginning of a life — the womb. Even there, before birth, the tradition pictures the soul in remembrance, and "not consumed by the great fire" — protected in the most vulnerable place imaginable. This is the beginning of a beautiful movement (P3-P8): the One's care is traced from before you were born, through the womb, into the whole of the life it then furnishes. The message underneath is deep reassurance: you were held before you could do anything to deserve it, cared for before you drew your first breath.
How does it feel to think you were cared for even before you were born, before you'd done anything at all?
