Verse 3 of 5

No Sorrow, Even In Dreams

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
jaa ka-o cheet aavai gur apnaa.
Whoever remembers his Guru,
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਸੁਪਨਾ ॥੨॥
taa ka-o dookh nahee til supnaa. ||2||
shall not suffer sorrow, even in dreams. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever keeps their Guru in mind

meets no sorrow, not even a speck of it, not even in a dream.

Keeping a good guide in mind can be a shelter sorrow cannot reach.
The deeper layer

Keep the Guru in mind, and sorrow cannot reach you, even in your dreams.

Jaa ka-o cheet aavai gur apnaa: whoever remembers their Guru. Til supnaa: not a speck, not even in a dream. Holding the Guru in mind is a shelter so complete that sorrow cannot reach even the edges of sleep, like a night-light that keeps the whole room calm.

A Question to Sit With

What thought or memory comforts you even on your hardest nights?
