ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
anik bhaaNt kar du-aar na paava-o.
The Door to the Lord cannot be found by any other means.
ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥੧॥
ho-ay kirpaal ta har har Dhi-aava-o. ||1||
When He becomes Merciful, we come to meditate on the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I try all sorts of ways, and still I cannot find the Door.
When the One is kind, then I remember the One, Har, Har.
The way home opens by grace, when you grow still and open.
The door to the One opens by grace, and then remembering comes.
Anik bhaant kar du-aar na paava-o: trying in many ways, I do not find the door. Ho-ay kirpaal ta har har Dhi-aava-o: when the One is kind, I remember the One. Grace is always here, like a door already unlatched, and you become open to it.
A Question to Sit With
When has trying too hard gotten in your own way?
