Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have completely forgotten my jealousy of other people,

ever since I found the Sangat, the company of the holy.

In the Sangat, envy of others quietly melts away.
The deeper layer

In the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One — jealousy of others quietly melts away.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad, like the chorus of a song.

The verse says bisar ga-ee sabh taat paraa-ee: "I have forgotten all my jealousy of others." Taat is that hot, burning pang of envy you feel when someone else gets what you wanted. Bisar ga-ee means it was forgotten.

It went away jab tay saaDhsangat mohi paa-ee, "since I found the Sangat."

Notice the word forgotten. The envy slipped away, outgrown. Think of a toy you once wanted badly. After a while you just stop thinking about it. In the Sangat, envy fades like that.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel happy for someone else instead of jealous?
