Verse 2 of 4

No Enemy, No Stranger

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੈਰੀ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥
naa ko bairee nahee bigaanaa sagal sang ham ka-o ban aa-ee. ||1||
No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger. I get along with everyone. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger. I get along with everyone.

See the oneness, and no one is a stranger anymore.
The deeper layer

When you see the One in everyone, no one is an enemy and no one is a stranger.

The verse says naa ko bairee nahee bigaanaa. Bairee means enemy. Bigaanaa means stranger, someone who does not belong. The line says there is no one like that.

Then: sagal sang ham ka-o ban aa-ee, "I get along with everyone." Sagal means all.

Think of the first day at a new school. Everyone seems like a stranger. Then you learn their names, share lunch, and laugh together. The walls come down. The verse says this can happen with the whole world, once you see the same One in every person. Then belonging reaches everyone.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone who once felt like a stranger and later became a friend?
