Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever speaks or listens to the kirtan, the singing of the One's praises, is rid of a crooked, unkind mind.

Nanak says: All their wishes are granted, and their hope is fulfilled.

Both the one who sings and the one who listens are made whole.
The deeper layer

Whoever sings or listens to the One's praise is freed from crooked thinking, and every hope comes true.

Jo jo kathai sunai har keertan: whoever speaks or hears the praise. Durmat naas: crooked thinking dissolves. Sagal manorath … pooran hovai aas: all the heart's wishes and hopes are fulfilled. The singer and the listener are included equally, like the one who plays the song and the one who hums along. Guru Arjan signs the shabad as Nanak.

A Question to Sit With

Do you feel more like the singer or the listener, and when?
