Verse 2 of 4

Attune To The One

ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਹਾ ਲੋੁਭਾਵਹਿ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
eet oot kahaa lobhaaveh ayk si-o man laa-ay. ||1||
Why are you entangled in this and that? Let your mind be attuned to the One. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why do you keep getting pulled toward this and that? Tune your mind to the One.

A scattered heart finds rest when it tunes to a single center.
The deeper layer

A scattered heart finds rest when it tunes itself to the One.

The verse asks eet oot kahaa lobhaaveh: "why are you pulled here and there?" Eet oot means this way and that way. Lobhaaveh means being tempted, pulled by wanting.

Think of having ten apps open at once, each one buzzing. Your attention jumps around and nothing gets done. You feel tired and are not sure why.

The answer comes as a gentle invitation: ayk si-o man laa-ay, "tune your mind to the One." Ayk means one. Close the extra apps, gather the heart to one center, and it can finally rest.

A Question to Sit With

What pulls your attention in too many directions at once?
