Verse 4 of 5

The Heart Grows Calm

ਗੁਣ ਰਮੰਤ ਦੂਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਰਿਦ ਭਇਅੰਤ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
gun ramant dookh naaseh rid bha-i-ant saaNt. ||3||
Uttering His Glorious Praises, suffering is eradicated, and the heart becomes tranquil and calm. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Speaking the praises of the One, pain runs away, and the heart becomes calm and still.

Turning the mind toward praise is itself what settles the heart.
The deeper layer

Singing the praises of the One clears away pain and calms the heart.

Gun ramant dookh naaseh: speaking the praises, suffering departs. Rid bha-i-ant saant: the heart becomes calm. Turning the mind toward praise is itself what settles the heart, the way a slow, deep breath settles a racing chest.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can say or sing that calms you down?
