Come To Me, Friends

ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
kaanrhaa mehlaa 5.
Kaanraa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਜਨਾ ਸੰਤ ਆਉ ਮੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saajnaa sant aa-o mayrai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O friends, O Saints, come to me. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my friends, O holy ones, come to me.

Longing can be a warm invitation: come close, come in.
The deeper layer

Friends and holy people are welcome here: the heart calls them in.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Saajnaa sant aa-o mayrai: O friends, O saints, come to me. It is a warm, open invitation. The longing of Kaanraa turns into welcome, like setting places at the table for friends you love. It is the sound of a heart making room.

A Question to Sit With

Who would you most love to invite closer into your life?
