Nanak, the beggar, begs for the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; he rests his forehead upon God's Feet. ||2||7||18||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are deeper than anyone can measure, so very great, my Master. You are an ocean of mercy, full of every jewel.

Nanak says: like a beggar, I ask for the Naam of the One, Har, Har, and I lay my forehead at Your feet.

The best thing to ask for, with open hands, is the Naam.
The deeper layer

Before a Giver this vast, the one thing worth asking for is the Naam.

Too athaahu at bado su-aamee: You are unfathomable and so very great, my Master. Kirpaa sinDh pooran ratnaagee: ocean of mercy, full source of jewels. Naanak jaachak har har naam maangai: Nanak, a beggar, asks for the Naam. Mastak aan Dhari-o prabh paagee: he lays his forehead at the One's feet. Asking with empty hands is the whole prayer.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for just one thing worth keeping forever, what would it be?
