Sikhism·Raag Kaanraa·Shabad 31
Verse 2 of 3

Yours Is The Power That Keeps Me

ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਜੋਗੁ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
too samrath saran jog too raakhahi apnee kal Dhaar. ||1||
You are All-powerful and Potent to grant Sanctuary. Exerting Your Power, You protect us. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are all-powerful, able to give shelter.

Using Your own strength, You keep us safe.

What keeps us safe is the Giver's strength, not our own perfection.
The deeper layer

The One is strong enough to shelter anyone, and that strength keeps you safe.

Too samrath saran jog: You are all-powerful and able to give shelter. Too raakhahi apnee kal Dhaar: by Your own power You protect. Shelter rests on the Giver's strength, like a child safe in strong arms.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt held by something stronger than yourself?
