They look upon all equally, the high and the low; they speak of Him with their mouths, and honor Him in their minds. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The holy ones know no one else but the One.

They look at everyone the same way, high and low alike. They speak of the One with their lips, and they honor the One in their hearts.

Seeing everyone as equal is what it looks like to know the One.
The deeper layer

Holy people know only the One, so they see high and low with the same eyes.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Na jaanee santan prabh bin aan: the saints know none other than the One. Ooch neech sabh paykh samaano: they see high and low as equal. Mukh bakno man maan: they speak of the One aloud and honor the One inside. This equal way of seeing sits at the heart of the teaching. Every ranking between people melts away, and every person has the same dignity.

A Question to Sit With

Is there someone the world overlooks whom you could see with fresh, equal eyes?
