Always Joyful, Grasping At Nothing

He is never in sorrow - he is always happy; but he gives this up, and does not take anything.
kaho naanak jan har har har hai kat aavai kat ramtai. ||2||3||22||
Says Nanak, the humble servant of the Lord is himself the Lord, Har, Har; he does not come and go in reincarnation. ||2||3||22||

In plain words

They are never sad; they are always happy. And yet they let it all go, and take nothing for themselves.

Nanak says: the humble servant of the One is himself the One, Har, Har, Har. He no longer comes and goes from birth to birth.

Deep joy holds on to nothing and feels completely at home.
The deeper layer

Someone at one with the One is always glad, holds on to nothing, and is home for good.

Sog naahee sadaa harkhee hai: no sorrow, always joyful. Chhod naahee kichh laytai: letting go, taking nothing. Jan har har har hai: the servant has become one with the One. Kat aavai kat ramtai: where would he come and go? The round of being born again and again is over. Like a river that has reached the sea, there is nowhere left to go.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be somewhere you belong so fully you do not want to grab at anything?
