Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I pray that my heart may always remember my Beloved.

My body and mind are blended with the One, and yet Maya, the great charmer, keeps pulling at me, O my mother.

Even when the world tugs at us, the heart can keep the Beloved close.
The deeper layer

You can ask your heart to keep the Beloved close, even while the world keeps pulling at you.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Hee-ay ko pareetam bisar na jaa-ay: may my heart never forget the Beloved. Tan man galat bha-ay tih sangay: body and mind are blended with the One. Mohnee mohi rahee moree maa-ay: the charmer is charming me, O my mother. Mohnee is Maya, the shiny pull of the world. Love and pull sit side by side, like a phone buzzing while you talk with a friend you love.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you remember what you love most, even when you are being pulled in every direction?
