But I have entered the Sanctuary of the Purifier of sinners. O Nanak, I know that I shall be saved. ||2||12||31||

In plain words

Caught by strong wanting, anger and greed, you are sent around the circle of being born again and again.

But I have come to the shelter of the One who makes the fallen clean. Nanak says: I know I will be saved.

No matter how far we have drifted, the One can make us clean and new again.
The deeper layer

Even when wanting, anger, and greed pull us off course, the One welcomes us back and makes us new.

Kaam kroDh lobh bi-aapi-o: strong wanting, anger, and greed take hold. Janam hee kee khaan: they keep a person going round and round the circle of being born again. It is like a hamster wheel. You keep running but never arrive.

Then comes the turn. Patit paavan saran aa-i-o: "I have come to the shelter of the One who makes the fallen clean." Patit paavan means welcome back and a fresh start, never blame. Guru Arjan, signing as Nanak, knows he will be lifted out, uDhar. Like a muddy shirt in the wash, anyone can come out clean again.
