Verse 2 of 3

My Heart Thirsts And Yearns

ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸ ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਉਮਗਿ ਹੀਉ ਤਰਸਨਾ ॥੧॥
aas pi-aas safal moorat umag hee-o tarsanaa. ||1||
I hope and thirst for Your wish-fulfilling image; my heart yearns and longs for You. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I hope and I thirst to see Your form, which fulfills every wish. My heart swells and longs for You.

Longing itself is a kind of prayer.
The deeper layer

Hope and thirst fill the heart, reaching toward the One who fulfills every wish.

Aas pi-aas: hope and thirst. Safal moorat: the form that makes every wish come true. Umag hee-o tarsanaa: the heart brims over and yearns, like a child at the window waiting for someone they love to come home.

A Question to Sit With

When have you wanted something so much that your whole heart reached for it?
