I make my heart a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
What You have done for me, my Lord, how could I ever do the same for You?
I give my heart to You as an offering, again and again and again and again.
When love overflows, the only answer is to give your whole heart back.
What the One has done for you can never be paid back; you can give your whole heart in return.
Jaisee karee prabh mo si-o: what the One has done for me. Aisee ha-o kaisay kara-o: how could I do the same in return? Hee-o tumHaaray bal balay: I offer my heart to You, again and again. Bal means giving yourself as an offering.
Think of a child who draws a picture for a parent. It is not payment. It is love given back, with everything the child has.
A Question to Sit With
How do you thank someone when a simple thank-you is not enough?
