Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

First I bow at the feet of the saints. I meditate on You again and again, held in Your love.

O my Lord, where is that place where You sit and care for all Your creatures?

Countless servants sing Your praise.

Only the one who pleases You meets You. Nanak says: I, Your servant, stay melted into You, my Master.

Only You, only You, only You.

When the whole heart says You alone, it has found its home.
The deeper layer

Bow first to the saints, keep the One in mind with love, and one thing is left to say: You alone.

Pahilay pai sant paa-ay: first I fall at the feet of the saints, people who live close to the One. Prabh thaan tayro kayhro: where is Your place, from where You care for every being? The question is full of wonder. Anik daas keerat: countless servants sing Your praise. So-ee mili-o jo bhaavto: the one who pleases You is the one who meets You.

Ayk toohee toohee toohee: You alone, You alone, You alone. Nanak repeats it three times, like a heartbeat.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so important to you that everything else feels small beside it?
