He is the Fulfiller of hope, the Destroyer of pain. Nanak grasps the Support of the Feet of the Lord. ||2||1||40||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

He is the Master of the breath of life. He gives support to those who have none. I am small and poor, and I come to the shelter of the Lord of the Universe.

He fulfills hope and takes away pain. Nanak says: I hold on to His feet for support.

The One who holds your breath also holds your hope.
The deeper layer

The One who holds your breath also fulfills your hope, and you can hold on.

Praan naath: the Master of the breath of life. Anaath daatay: the Giver to those who have no one. Deen: humble and poor. Aas pooran dukh binaasan: the One who fulfills hope and takes away pain.

Gahee ot: holding on for support, like a small child holding a parent's hand in a crowd.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you turn to, when you need shelter?
