Gold And Silk Cannot Tempt Me

ਕਨਿਕ ਮੰਦਰ ਪਾਟ ਸੇਜ ਸਖੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਇਨ ਸਿਉ ਤਾਤ ॥੧॥
kanik mandar paat sayj sakhee mohi naahi in si-o taat. ||1||
Mansions of gold, and beds of silk sheets - O sisters, I have no love for these. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Houses of gold and beds with silk sheets: O my sisters, I have no love for these.

When your heart is full of love, riches lose their pull.
The deeper layer

When your heart is full of love, fancy things lose their pull.

Kanik mandar paat sayj: houses of gold and beds of silk. Mohi naahi in si-o taat: I have no craving for these. The singer is talking to her friends, her "sisters."

Picture a child who would rather have one afternoon with a grandparent than the newest game. The Beloved matters more than any riches.

A Question to Sit With

What do you treasure more than any expensive thing?
