Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Give up your ego, and turn your face toward the One.

Let your longing mind call out, "Guru, Guru."

My Beloved is the Lover of love.

Let go of ego, and let longing turn you toward the One.
The deeper layer

Put down your pride and let your longing turn you toward the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Ahan toro mukh joro: break the ego and turn your face toward the One. It is like turning away from a screen to look at someone who is calling your name. Gur gur karat man loro: the longing mind keeps calling, "Guru, Guru."

Pari-a pareet pi-aaro: my Beloved is the lover of love itself. The One loves love, so a heart full of longing is welcome.

A Question to Sit With

What do you find yourself calling for when you want something good with all your heart?
