Break The Ropes That Hold You

garihi sayj suhaavee aagan chainaa toro ree toro panch dootan si-o sang toro. ||1||
The bed of your household shall be cozy, and your courtyard shall be comfortable; shatter and break the bonds which tie you to the five thieves. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The bed in your home will feel cozy, and your courtyard calm and comfortable.

Break them, oh break them, break the ropes that tie you to the five thieves inside.

Peace at home begins with loosening what pulls you inside.
The deeper layer

Home feels peaceful when you break free from the five troublemakers inside.

Garihi sayj suhaavee aagan chainaa: your home becomes cozy and your courtyard calm. Panch dootan si-o sang toro: break your ties with the panch doot, the five thieves. These are strong wanting, anger, greed, clinging, and pride.

Picture a boat tied to the dock by five ropes. It cannot sail anywhere until they are untied. When their grip loosens, inner peace arrives, and it spills over into the whole home.

A Question to Sit With

What is one habit or feeling whose grip you'd like to gently loosen?
