Caught In Me, Me, Me

ਅਹੰ ਅਹੰ ਅਹੈ ਅਵਰ ਮੂੜ ਮੂੜ ਮੂੜ ਬਵਰਈ ॥
ahaN ahaN ahai avar moorh moorh moorh bavra-ee.
They are egotistical, self-centered and conceited, foolish, stupid, idiotic and insane.
ਜਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਲ ਹਈ ॥੧॥
jat jaat jaat jaat sadaa sadaa sadaa sadaa kaal ha-ee. ||1||
Wherever they go and wander, death is always with them, forever and ever and ever and ever. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

They are full of I, I, I, and they lose their way, foolish and foolish again, as if in a daze.

Wherever they go, wherever they wander, death walks close beside them, always, always, always.

When we get lost in me, we forget how precious our short time is.
The deeper layer

Being stuck in "me, me, me" makes you forget that life is short.

Ahan ahan ahai: I, I, I. Moorh moorh moorh bavra-ee: foolish, foolish, foolish, as if lost in a daze. Kaal ha-ee: death is always near, wherever you go. Death is part of every life, the way autumn is part of every year. Remembering that can help you see what matters most today.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you remember what matters most when you're caught up in yourself?
