Set Down Pride — Your Time Is Precious

Give up your pride and stubborn self-conceit; death, yes, death, is always close and near at hand.

Vibrate and meditate on the Lord, Har, Haray, Haray. Says Nanak, listen you fool: without vibrating, and meditating, and dwelling on Him, your life is uselessly wasting away. ||2||5||50||12||62||

In plain words

Let go of pride, pride, pride. Death, yes, death, is always near, so near.

Remember the One: Har, Haray, Haray. Nanak says: listen, foolish one! Without remembering the One, again and again, this precious life slips away for nothing.

A life filled with remembrance is a life well lived.
The deeper layer

Letting go of pride and remembering the One keeps your precious life from slipping away.

Maan maan maan ti-aag: let go of pride, again and again. Mirat mirat nikat nikat: death is always near. Har haray haray bhaaj: remember the One. Ahilaa janam is a priceless life.

Guru Arjan, signing as Nanak, calls out like a friend shaking your shoulder: wake up, this life is a treasure. Think of building a sandcastle on the beach. The tide always comes in, so you enjoy the building while the sun is out.

A Question to Sit With

How would you spend a day if you remembered how precious your time is?
