The more you chant and meditate, the more you will be at peace; serve the True Guru, and merge in the Lord. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O my mind, say the Naam of the One, and you will find peace.

The more you say it, the more peace you find. Serve the True Guru, and you merge into the One.

The more you keep the One in mind, the more peace fills you.
The deeper layer

The more you keep the One in mind, the more peace you find.

Jap man raam naam sukh paavaigo: say the Naam, O mind, and peace will come. Jap means to say or remember the Naam again and again. It is like watering a plant each day. You do not see it grow in a minute, but slowly it fills with green.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It sets the note for everything after it: remembering is a slow filling with ease. Satgur sayv samaavaigo: serve the True Guru, and you melt into the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can quietly remember that makes you feel calm inside?
