Sweet Words On The Tongue

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੀਠੇ ਬਚਨ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
gurmat har har meethaa laagaa gur meethay bachan kadhaavaigo.
Following the Guru's Teachings, the Lord seems sweet to them; the Guru inspires them to speak sweet words.
satgur banee purakh purkhotam banee si-o chit laavaigo. ||2||
Through the Word of the True Guru's Bani, the Primal Lord God is revealed; so focus your consciousness on His Bani. ||2||

In plain words

Following the Guru's teaching, the One tastes sweet, and the Guru brings sweet words to your lips.

Through the True Guru's Bani, the Highest One of all is seen. So rest your mind on that Bani.

Listening deeply to wisdom makes the truth taste sweet.
The deeper layer

When you listen closely to the Guru's words, the One starts to taste sweet.

Gurmat har har meethaa laagaa: through gurmat, the Guru's teaching, the One grows sweet. The Guru's sweetness even shows up in the words you speak. Banee si-o chit laavaigo: set your heart on the Banee, the Guru's sacred words.

This sweetness grows the way a friendship grows. At first you just say hello. Then you start to listen closely, and one day that friend is dear to you.

A Question to Sit With

What words have you heard that stayed sweet in your memory?
