In plain words

The wishes of the heart come true when you remember the One, the ocean of peace.

Love the feet of the One through the Guru's word, the mine of jewels.

Joining the Sangat, you are carried across, and death's written summons is torn up.

The treasure of this human life is won by remembering the One, who clings to nothing.

So let everyone come into the True Guru's shelter, and the dark scar of pain is wiped away.

In the Guru's shelter, even the old scar of pain is wiped clean.
The deeper layer

In the Guru's shelter, even an old scar of pain can be wiped away.

It opens with sukh saagar, "the ocean of peace." Picture floating on calm water on a warm day. You do not have to swim hard. You just rest, and the water holds you. Remembering the One is like that, and the heart's wishes are filled.

Next comes faatai jam kaagar. Jam is the messenger of death in old stories, and kaagar is his paper, his written summons. The verse says that paper is torn up. This is about release, not fear. It is like a teacher tearing up a bad report and saying, "Fresh start."

The verse calls this life a treasure to be won. It ends with dukh daagar, the dark scar of suffering, erased. The Guru's shelter is a place of healing, and everyone is invited in.

A Question to Sit With

What old hurt has softened for you over time, like a scar slowly fading?
