Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O mind, remember the Naam of the One, Har, Har, and you will be honored in the court of the One.
Rest your attention on the Guru's Word, and you will receive the fruit you wish for.
All your mistakes and wrongs are cut away, and the ego and its pride come to an end.
For the one who faces the Guru, the heart opens like a lotus flower, and sees the same One in every soul.
Nanak says: O One, Har, Har, be kind to me, Your servant, so that I keep saying Your Naam.
Hold the Naam close, and your heart opens like a flower.
Think of a lotus in a pond. At night it stays shut. When the morning sun reaches it, it opens wide. Gurmukh kamal vigsi-aa: the heart-lotus of a gurmukh, someone who faces the Guru, blossoms open. This raag, Kaanraa, is a musical mood full of longing. Here that longing finally finds its opening.
And what does the open heart see? Sabh aatam barahm pachhaan: it recognizes the One in every soul. Barahm is a name for the One Spirit. This is the seed of a big idea. If the same One is in everyone, then no one is a stranger.
The verse also says kilvikh paap sabh katee-ah: all mistakes are cut away. Those words set us free, the way a knot is cut so you can move again.
When have you suddenly seen something you share with a person who seemed different from you?
