In plain words

The Naam of the One, Har, Har, is pure. Saying the Naam, pain goes away.

Those for whom it was written from the start find the One coming to live in their minds.

Those who walk in step with the True Guru's will find their want and their pain lifting off.

No one has ever found the One by going their own way. See this for yourself, and let your mind be sure.

Nanak says: I am the servant of the servants of those who bow at the True Guru's feet.

Walking in step with the larger flow, hardship quietly lifts.
The deeper layer

Walk in step with the Guru's will, and want and pain lift away.

Satgur kai bhaanai chalai: walking in the Guru's will, moving with the flow of existence. Think of a canoe going with the river's current. Aapnai bhaanai kinai na paa-i-o: no one has found the One by going their own way, like paddling hard upstream. Jan vaykhhu man patee-aa-ay: see for yourself, and let the mind be at rest.

Daasan daas, the servant of the servants, is the humble place where everything is received.

A Question to Sit With

When has going along with something wiser than your own plan turned out better?
