In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O Supreme One, highest Lord and Master, Remover of pain, Narayan!

All Your devotees come asking of You. Ocean of peace, carry us across the frightening ocean of the world. O One, You are the jewel that grants every wish.

When the waters feel too wide, there is an ocean of peace ready to carry you across.
The deeper layer

When life feels like a wide, frightening sea, the One is an ocean of peace that carries you across.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It is sung in Kalyaan Bhopaalee, a bright form of the raag. Sukh saagar (ocean of peace), bhav niDh taran (carrying across the world-ocean), chintaamanay (the wish-granting jewel). Dookh nivaaran: the One who takes pain away. The mood is pure blessing.

A Question to Sit With

What helps carry you through when things feel overwhelming?
