In plain words

There is an old picture of a deer so spellbound by a beautiful sound that it forgets everything else. Being captivated like that is powerful — it matters what captures you.

So I let myself be captured by the sweetest thing of all: the One.

Resting at Your feet is like tasting nectar, and I have tied my heart to You with a firm little knot, so I will not drift away.

What captures your attention shapes you, so let it be the sweetest thing of all.
The deeper layer

Mahaa naad kurank mohi-o — the deer entranced by a sound. In the literal, the entranced deer is then struck by an arrow; for children the violent hunting image is set aside, and the point is kept: what captivates you shapes you, so choose to be captivated by the One. Charan kamal rasaal — the One's feet as the source of nectar — and gaath baadh dharee, the heart tied by a loving knot, so the sweetness is not lost. Guru Arjan signs the shabad.

A Question to Sit With

What sounds or sights capture your attention most, and are they leading you somewhere good?
