Verse 2 of 5
Meeting the Teacher Washes the Heart Clean
vadbhaagee gur darsan paa-i-aa gur mili-ai har parabh jaataa.
By great good fortune, one obtains the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan; meeting with the Guru, the Lord God is known.
durmat mail ga-ee sabh neekar har amrit har sar naataa. ||1||
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away, bathing in the Lord's ambrosial pool of nectar. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
By great good luck, you catch sight of the teacher and, meeting, you come to know the One.
Whatever felt murky inside washes clean, like bathing in a cool pool of nectar.
Meeting real wisdom can rinse the heart clear like cool water.
Darshan is the blessing of seeing/being in the presence of the Guru. The "filth of evil-mindedness" is rendered simply as what "felt murky inside," washed in the amrit sar — the pool of nectar. Cleansing here is refreshment, not scrubbing away guilt.
A Question to Sit With
