In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O my mind, real peace comes from loving and serving the One.

Every other kind of service leaves you empty and worn out — but this one fills you.

The service that actually fills you is love freely given to the One.
The deeper layer

This one says real peace comes from lovingly serving the One.

It opens a group of shabads by Guru Arjan, the Fifth Guru. It begins with the opening words that praise the One Creator and the True Guru's grace.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Ray man tahal har sukh saar — O mind, serving the One is where true peace is found. Tahal means service, helping out with love.

The verse warns that every other kind of service is false and ends in pain. Chasing what serves only ourselves leaves us empty and worn out. Loving service fills us up.

Think of helping cook a family meal. You end up tired but happy, and the food tastes better because you helped. That kind of tired feels good.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of helping leaves you feeling full instead of drained?
