Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Stay close, always, to the good and wise; let go of grabbing, clinging, and cutting corners.
Set down all your scattered hopes, and rest them instead in the One who has no shape and never fails.
This one says: let go of many anxious hopes and rest your hope in the One.
Aas means hope. The verse asks us to stay close to the good and wise, and to serve them every day. It asks us to drop lobh, greed, and moh, clinging attachment.
Rakh aas ik nirankaar — keep your hope in the One Nirankaar, the Formless One, who has no shape.
Think of juggling ten balls at once. You worry about every one, and they keep dropping. Now put them down and hold one steady hand instead. One steady hope replaces a hundred scattered ones.
Peace comes from keeping it simple about where you put your trust.
What would change if you worried about one big thing instead of many small ones?
