Placed Back on the Path

jis ka-o nadar karay gur pooraa.
He, unto whom the Perfect Guru grants His Grace,
sabad milaa-ay gurmat sooraa.
is merged in the Word of the Shabad, through the Teachings of the brave, heroic Guru.
naanak gur kay charan sarayvhu jin bhoolaa maarag paa-i-aa. ||5||
O Nanak, dwell upon, and serve at the Guru's feet; He places those who wander back on the Path. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one the perfect Guru blesses with grace

melts into the Word through the wisdom of the brave, big-hearted Guru.

Nanak says, stay close and serve at the Guru's feet; the Guru gently places the wanderers back on the path.

When you drift off the path, the Guru quietly sets you back on it.
The deeper layer

Sooraa (brave, heroic) describes the Guru: courage and a big heart. The tender close is that the Guru puts wanderers back on the path (maarag paa-i-aa), a picture of patient rescue.

A Question to Sit With

Who has gently set you back on the right path?
