The Help That Stays at the End

man tan Dhan tay naam pi-aaraa.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is more dear to me than my mind, body and wealth.
ant sakhaa-ee chalanvaaraa.
In the end, when I must depart, it shall be my only help and support.
moh pasaar nahee sang baylee bin har gur kin sukh paa-i-aa. ||4||
In this world of love and attachment, no one is anyone else's friend or companion; without the Lord, without the Guru, who has ever found peace? ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Name is dearer to me than my mind, my body, and all I own.

When it is time to leave, it will be my one true help and support.

In this world of clinging love, no one is finally anyone else's, but with the One and the Guru, peace is found.

The One is the help that stays with you even at the very end.
The deeper layer

The Name is ant sakhaa-ee, the help that remains at the very end, when even mind, body, and possessions are left behind. Departure is named gently, and the Name is pictured as the companion for the journey. Possessive attachment cannot give what the One gives.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that would matter to you all the way to the end?
