Serve Without Hesitating

satgur sayvhu sank na keejai.
So serve the Guru without hesitation.
aasaa maahi niraas raheejai.
And in the midst of hope, remain unmoved by hope.
sansaa dookh binaasan sayvhu fir baahurh rog na laa-i-aa. ||9||
Serve the Eradicator of cynicism and suffering, and you shall never again be afflicted by the disease. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Serve the Guru without holding back.

Live inside hope, yet stay unmoved when hope tugs at you.

Serve the One who clears away doubt and sorrow, and the old sickness of the heart will never trouble you again.

You can live full of hope without being yanked around by it.
The deeper layer

Serve wholeheartedly, and stay niraas (free of clinging to hope) even while living among hopes. Suffering and cynicism are treated as an old sickness to be healed, not a fault to be blamed.

A Question to Sit With

How do you stay steady when you're hoping hard for something?
