gur tay boojhai taa dar soojhai.
If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord's Door.
naam vihoonaa kath kath loojhai.
But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain.
satgur sayvay kee vadi-aa-ee tarisnaa bhookh gavaa-ee hay. ||13||
The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Understand through the Guru, and you find the doorway to the One.
Without the Name, all the clever talk in the world leads nowhere.
But serving the Guru ends the deep hunger and thirst inside.
Understanding, not clever talk, opens the door to the One.
The Lord's Door (dar) is reached by understanding, not by winning arguments. The hunger and thirst here are the inner lack that only the Name fills.
A Question to Sit With
When has understanding something felt better than just winning an argument?
