ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
aapay aap milai taa boojhai.
When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand.
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
gi-aan vihoonaa kichhoo na soojhai.
Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kee daat sadaa man antar banee sabad vajaa-ee hay. ||14||
One whose mind is filled with the Guru's gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||14||

When the One draws you near, understanding opens up.
Without that inner light, all the facts in the world explain nothing.
But let the Guru's gift fill your mind, and a quiet music starts ringing inside you, day and night.
When the gift fills you, an inner music never stops playing.
Gi-aan is inner light, not stacked-up facts. When the Guru's gift fills the mind, the Word begins to sound within, an unstruck, unending music.
