ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥
naanak naam samaaveh saachai saachay tay pat ho-ee hay. ||16||2||
O Nanak, immersed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one becomes true; from the True Lord, honor is obtained. ||16||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is the giver of every goodness, quietly holding the whole game.
To the one who turns to the Guru, the One hands the winning throw.
Nanak says, soaked in the Naam, they become true, and honor comes straight from the One.
The best goodness in you was handed to you; play your winning throw with gratitude.
Life is pictured as a game, and the winning throw is a gift from the One, not a thing grabbed. Honor that lasts comes from becoming true, not from applause.
A Question to Sit With
When has something good felt more like a gift than something you earned?
