Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 106
Verse 2 of 16

Knowing Yourself, You Find the One

so jan nirmal jin aap pachhaataa.
That humble being is immaculate, who knows his own self.
aapay aa-ay mili-aa sukh-daata.
The Lord, the Giver of peace, Himself comes and meets him.
rasnaa sabad ratee gun gaavai dar saachai pat paa-ee hay. ||2||
His tongue is imbued with the Shabad, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||2||

In plain words

Pure and bright is the one who knows their own heart.

To them the One, the giver of peace, comes near.

Their words fill with the living Word, they sing in wonder, and they are honored where it matters most.

Know your own heart, and you have already begun to find the One.
The deeper layer

Knowing your own self (aatam-chinaa) is the doorway to knowing the One. The Court where such a person is honored is not a distant hall but the deep place where what is real is recognized.

A Question to Sit With

What is something true about yourself that you are still getting to know?
