Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 106
Verse 16 of 16

Nothing Happens Outside the One

jo tis bhaavai so-ee karsee.
He does whatever He pleases.
aaphu ho-aa naa kichh hosee.
No one has done, or can do anything by himself.
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee dar saachai pat paa-ee hay. ||16||3||
O Nanak, through the Name, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and obtains honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||16||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One does as the One pleases, in the great gentle unfolding of things.

No one moves entirely on their own.

Nanak says, through the Naam a person is lifted into greatness and honored at the true door.

Everything unfolds within the One; rest a little in that.
The deeper layer

Hukam again: nothing happens outside the One. That gives you a place to set down worry, while the Naam lifts a person into lasting honor.

A Question to Sit With

When has letting go of trying to control everything felt like a relief?
