Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 106
Verse 9 of 16

The One Honor That Cannot Be Taken

sachai sabad sachee pat ho-ee.
Through the True Word of the Shabad, true honor is obtained.
bin naavai mukat na paavai ko-ee.
Without the Name, no one attains liberation.
bin satgur ko naa-o na paa-ay parabh aisee banat banaa-ee hay. ||9||
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Name. Such is the making which God has made. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

True honor comes through the living Word.

Without the Name, nothing quite sets the heart free.

And the Naam comes through the Guru; that is simply how the One has arranged it all.

The honor that lasts comes from the Name, not from applause.
The deeper layer

True honor (sachee pat) is the freedom the Naam brings, deeper than any applause. The path to it, through the Guru, is simply how the One has set things up.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of honor do you think lasts?
