Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 107
Verse 3 of 16

From Restless Circling to Quiet Rest

manmukh sahsaa boojh na paa-ee.
The self-willed manmukh is cynical; he doesn't understand.
mar mar jammai janam gavaa-ee.
He dies and dies again, only to be reborn, and loses his life uselessly again.
gurmukh naam ratay sukh paa-i-aa sehjay saach samaa-ee hay. ||3||
The Gurmukh is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he find peace, and is intuitively immersed in the True Lord. ||3||

In plain words

A doubting, closed-off heart keeps missing what is right in front of it.

So much life can slip past in that restless circling.

But the one who turns to the Guru, soaked in the Naam, finds peace and settles, with ease, into what is true.

A closed heart circles; an open one settles into peace.
The deeper layer

The closed heart keeps missing what is near. Soaked in the Name, it settles into peace, easily (sahaj).

A Question to Sit With

What helps a restless, worried feeling finally settle down?
